Forsberg Service Station Building

301 S. Broadway, Edmond, OK

East < GO > West

The first Forsberg Oil Company building was erected in 1936 and looked nothing like this later version on the southwest corner of 3rd and S. Broadway. The station started out as selling Tydol brand gas and oil products. It later switched to Conoco for a couple of years the a Champlin station before becoming a Magnolia/Mobil station in the mid-1940s. It was still a Mobil station in the 60s.

There's a neat mural on the south wall of the tire store across the street. It honors the long gone Wide Awake Cafe, a 24 hour cafe that was located about a half block nor at 213 s. Broadway where a small office building stands now.. When it was built in 1927 it originally was called "Night & Day Cafe". The mural was painted Dr. Bob Palmer & UCO students.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
