This is the former Gimmel Sinclair gas station with its drive through
canopy. Over the years it was also known as Gimmel Auto Service and Gimmel
Auto Parts. It was owned by Ed & Alva Gimmel.
Judging by the modern looking NAPA Auto Parts signs in the windows I'm
guessing they may have been the last occupants of the building. The
old gas station sits on the corner of Main St and Ladd Ave. This is
where the original 1926 Route 66 turned right and went down the hill
to the spot where it met the 1928 bypass. A little piece of the original
1928 road can still be found there.

You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane
road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned
lanes are still there.
