This marker honors both the Will Rogers Memorial Highway and the local Zinc and lead ore mining industry. It is located in a small triangular roadside park along a tiny stretch of the original Route 66 just as you enter Commerce from the east. Go straight west about a block on Route 66 instead of curving into Commerce on Hwy 69. GPS: 36.943500, -94.866415

You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane
road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned
lanes are still there.
