This lonely little Parking sign on N. 3rd St. points to a grassy spot that used to be the parking lot for Ethan "Pop" Hicks restaurant which burned down in 1999. It started out in 1939 as a tiny diner with 3 booths and a seven stool counter and grew to be a large restaurant and favorite of locals as well as Route 66 travelers.

x The foundation of the restaurant is still there in front of the parking sign. Some of the old ceramic tile was still in place when this photo was taken in 2013. That's Glancy's Motel next door. Having a 66 room motel next door probably provided a fair number of customers. Interesting, the motel was located there because of the proximity to what was already a popular diner.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
