Gus Jaworsky opened the Dairy Best Drive In in the early summer of 1960 with a "Grand Opening" in mid-July. Broasted Fried Chicken arrived in October and was stilleing featured on the sign out front when the place closed about 2015. The chicken was mentioned twice on the sign so I'm guessing it was a main item on the menu. Hamburgers and home made pies were also featured on the menu along with the usual Dairy things like malts and shakes, etc. After the Dairy Best closed it became the the El Loko Poko Mexican Cafe.

x Probably the coolest thing about the sign is the star on the upper corner which looks like it takes about 45 incandescent bulbs on each side. The upper sign can is missing now, but the star is still hanging in there. El Loko Poko used the lower sign can.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
