In 1911 Will Rogers purchased 20 acres just outside of Claremore, as a future retirement home but with his untimely death in 1935 (he died in a plane crash) his widow, Betty, decided the site should be a permanent memorial to him, free. The 25,000 square foot Will Rogers Memorial Museum opened in 1938 has twelve galleries brimming with the life and times of a man who brought laughter to the world. The museum is open 365 days a year.

x Will Rogers body was moved here in 1944 having been interred from 1935-1944 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in California. He's buried in the crypt in this photo. Rogers family donated this site to the State of Oklahoma.

x On the fence out front there is a plaque commemorating the Will Rogers Highway.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
