This Phillips 66 Station #1423 at 701 Manvel Ave. (Route 66) is a cottage style gas station built by the Phillips Petroleum Company in 1930. Two service bays were added in the mid 1950's but were removed around 2002 to bring the building back to its original form. The photo above is from 2012 and you can see the lift on the ground next to the building. The photo below from 2009 that shows the style of windows and where the garage section had been removed from the end of the building..

x This station has an interesting history. At various times it was a Phillips, Skelly, Getty, and finally Texaco station, closing in 1992. It sat empty until Bill Fernau purchased it in 1999 and his company, Patina Properties, has been returning it to its former glory. At one time there were three visible gas pumps on the pump island in front of the truck in this photo. That's an old Valentine Diner behind the station, it's waiting its turn to be restored.

x The Phillips Shield set in the brick chimney in 2009. It had been removed during the restoration process by 2012 when we took the top photo on this page. This cottage style station was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
