Frank Kupka was born in 1899, moved to Canute in 1916 and opened his Texaco service station in the mid-1930s. His son Gerald operated the station in the mid-60s. The station bears the slightly modified signature style, drive canopy used by Texaco in the 30s and 40s.

Also in the mid-60s, while running the station Gerald Kupka was also the town Marshall. By then this was more than just a service station, it was more like a small convenience station where besides buying gas and service for the car you could also groceries, apply for a drivers license and get license plates for your car.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
