In 1951 the Lakeside Golf and Country Club site became the Lake Air Drive-in Theater. The theater could accommodate 600 cars and was built and operated by R.E & C.B. McFarland and held 600. Movies were shown on a 60 foot screen. Unlike most drive-in theaters of the time, the projection booth and concession stand were located at the back of the parking area instead of in the middle of it.

The theater closed in the 1967 and the next twenty years are a mystery to me, but in 1987 the site more or less return to its roots becoming the Lakeside Golf Driving Range which also offered a go-cart track. That lasted until the late 90s, after which the site seems to have be abandoned.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
