The Silver Moon business complex grew from Eddie McBee's Texaco station
to include the Silver Moon Restaurant and eventually the Silver Moon Motel.
The restaurant is still operating under the Silver Moon name, The motel
is a Budget Inn, and the former Texaco gas station is now just a towing
and repair shop. The cafe and station had apparently been in business
before 1959 because a news article that year said McBee, owner of the
gas station was hoping to reopen the cafe "soon". A Silver Moon
Station was mentioned in a 1948 Texaco Santa Rosa newspaper ad.
I
haven't found a date when the the motel became a Budget Inn. The gas
station is off to the right in this photo.

About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
Did
You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane
road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned
lanes are still there.
