The Lake View Courts Motel, Conoco Station & Cafe was built in the 1940s with 10 units. It only had garages for 4 of those units, which I'm guessing carried a higher rental rate. In the mid-1960s Canuto Sanchez bought the motel and renamed it the Plains Motel and Station. The motel closed in the mid to late-1970s after which it was used as a storage facility for about 30 years. It was torn down in 2010.

xThe arrowhead shape featured on the sign is evident in this photo. The motel building was demolished and only the deteriorated sign was still standing when this photo was taken in 2012. The name of the motel appeared in the arrow shape and simply said The Plains on the top line and MOTEL under that.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
