The old adobe Wilkerson's Station has seen seriously better days, to say the least. Since the station closed it's apparently been on a continuous downhill ride. This is often reported as having been a Gulf station, but the truncated, "V" shape of the canopy makes me think that this was a Phillips 66 station at some point. There was a Gulf station in Newkirk, but it may have been at a different location.

xThe building is not so slowly falling apart. The front windows have shattered, maybe from the stress of the collapsing walls and roof.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
