The former Sands Motel is now the Sands Apartments. That's a fate that has become reality for many of the vintage Mom and Pop motels along the Mother Road.

The Sands started out as a small six room motel with garages between the rooms in 1954. The original owner, a Mr. Simms, sold the motel in 1955. At least some of the garages were eventually converted to guest rooms thus increasing the guest room count. In 1968 the motel was sold again and the new owner eventually expanded the motel again.

The sign has been modified to reflect the current nature of the business but the neon tubing for the name Sands was still in place when we went by in 2013.
