Beasley Texaco

Route 66, Montoya, NM Address
Phone:x

East < GO > West

The old Beasley Texaco Station and Bar is slowly giving way to natures desire to reclain the land. An old matchbook cover uses the slogan "Drive In For Snappy Service" The restrooms were in the small section on the left in this photo. A storage tank of some kind stands in back of the building. I'm not sure about the years of operation of this business.

x"Cold Beer" can still be seen in the sort of ghost sign on the both the east and west walls of the building. It seems like sandwiches were also available in the bar.

xA pair of columns are still standing out front. They aren't tall enough to have supported a canopy unless a top portion has been removed from each one. There is also what I think was probably a flag pole because it doesn't seem robust enough to be either a sign post or power pole.

xThe stone the walls were made of can be seen where the plaster has fallen off inside the building .

xThe rear section of the station may have been home to Mentle Beasley, his wife Lillian and their daughter Betty Jo. The Beasley family is listed in the 1940 census as living in Montoya.

xNext to the station is a kind of mystery, a childs teeter-totter and a foundation of some sort of building.

xThe concrete foundation slab is a couple of steps up from grade level.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
