East < GO > West

Just west of Glenrio, about where the pavement ends, you come to this wye in the road where the 1952 alignment veered right and was eventually severed by I-40. You can only go one way, to the left, because the right turn is fenced off and gated. If it was still open it would take you to the Russell's Travel Center at I-40 exit 369.

xIf you could travel the post-52 alignment you'd come to this bridge just befor you got to I-40. You can't seethe bridge from the wye on the old road, I snapped these photos as we went by on I-40.

xHere's a little closer look at the bridge piers thanks to a telephoto lens. This twelve-span Steel Stringer Bridge was build in 1952 and is well preserved in its islocated state.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
