In 1935 what was or became the El Oriente Court was listed as simply El
Oriente in the local newspaper under Tourist Camps. It was also known
as the El Oriente Auto Court. By 1952 it was the Minton Lodge and advertised
in 1955 as "one of the newer and finer lodges in Albuquerque, all
rooms faced shaded, restful patios". As the Minton Lodge two wings
of the motel still had garages, the third wing didn't. Unfortunately the
old place bit the dust and disappeared sometime after I caught it on video
in 2019. That's another good reason to hit the road a see what's left
of the iconic Mother Road motels before more get moved to the dustbin
of history.
