In 1935 what was or became the El Oriente Court was listed as simply El Oriente in the local newspaper under Tourist Camps. It was also known as the El Oriente Auto Court. By 1952 it was the Minton Lodge and advertised in 1955 as "one of the newer and finer lodges in Albuquerque, all rooms faced shaded, restful patios". As the Minton Lodge two wings of the motel still had garages, the third wing didn't. Unfortunately the old place bit the dust and disappeared sometime after I caught it on video in 2019. That's another good reason to hit the road a see what's left of the iconic Mother Road motels before more get moved to the dustbin of history.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
