The Tewa Lodge opened in 1946 with 24 units. In 1959 you could stay here for a night for as little as $6.00, big spenders could pop for the bigger room for as much as $10.00. Two of the units even had kitchenettes, but those cost another $1.00 extra! The sign is not the original.

The motel was placed on National Register of Historic Places in 1998

Note: OK, looking at the ad in the AAA Tour Book I guess only some rooms had a TV set, the rest apparently had to settle for just a radio. Seems odd for "One of New Mexico's Outstanding Motor Courts". But then the postcard lists neither radios or TVs.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
