In 1938 Vance Carothers and D.D. Fuller opened a Texaco Station in this building which they had built for their business. Beside Texaco gas and products the sold General Tires, Progress Vacuum Cleaners, Grunow Radios (with "automatic tuning") and Kelvinator Refrigerators (with their " amazing new speedy cube release". It might seem odd to today that folks would run down to the gas station to buy a radio or refrigerator, but it was apparently common at the time.

Like a lot of service stations this one changed hands fairly often and by 1942 it was Emmon's Service Station. A few more new operators and by 1965 it was home to Fady Auto Supply. In the 70s it was a used car dealership.

The DiGregory brothers purchased the vacant building and opened the Standard Diner in 2006, which closed in 2020 and reopened as the Range Cafe.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
