Surrounded by shops, cafes and museums the 400 year old Santa Fe Plaza is known as the "heart" of Santa Fe. Today it's a grassy, tree shaded social center, home to several significant historic markers. That wasn't always the case, in the beginning the Plaza was a much larger center of commerce. Here both locals and merchants from the east would gather to would display and sell their merchandise at the end of the historic end of the Santa Fe Trail.

Look for this historic marker commemorating the Plaza as the end of the Santa Fe Trail. The Plaza was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
