La Fonda Hotel

East < GO > West

The 1920s La Fonda Hotel was a Fred Harvey House Hotel until 1968 when Sam and Ethel Ballena bought the hotel. In 2014 when Jennifer Kimball and her brother Philip Wise bought it. This is a luxury hotel with high end rates, accommodations and services.

xIt's hard to get a good photo of the hotel because of traffic. It is on the corner of the Santa Fe Plaza. A hotel or Inn has occupied this spot at the southwest corner of the famed Santa Fe Plaza since the early 1600s.

The sign is rather understated.

LA FONDA IN OLD SANTA FE, N.M.
Fred Harvey's Famous La Fonda is one of the worlds most unusual hotels. Facing the century old plaza on the site of the original Fonda (Inn) of Santa Fe trail days, the building sweeps back in terraces like the nearby pueblos.

NOTE: This looks to be from at least the mid-60s judging by the cars in the image.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
