This little station was built in 1923, 3 years before Route 66 came along.
By 1933 it was a Phillips 66 station. It sits at the northwest corner
of NM Hwy 314 and Main Street in Los Lunas. A single exterior door on
the east end of the buillding has been removed. There are very few old
stations of this style left in New Mexico.
The
building was renovated about 2015 and two exterior doors have been removed
on the west side of the building. The pump island was also removed at
that time. At an earlier time there was a lift or ramp of some sort
used to service a car. One missing door on each end of the building
allowed access to the restrooms. After the renovations the building
has been painted in a manner different than the original which was white
with dark trim along the base and widow and door trim as well as the
louver in the gables. Metal roofing has replaced shingles.

Did
You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane
road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned
lanes are still there.
