Trolley Track Trestles

Route 66, Carterville, MO

East < GO > West

Standing serenely in a field like monuments to an earlier time you can still see the trestles and abutments that carried the Southwest Missouri Electric Railway (Trolley) that linked Carthage, Carterville, Webb City and Joplin from the early 1900s until 1939. There was almost 100 miles connecting the Tri-State Mining Field.

x The old intercity trolley line was elevated at this point to cross a railroad track on the eastern edge of Webb City

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
