I haven't found much information about this old Derby Service Station on old 66 (E. James St.) in St. James. A 1960 newspaper Derby Refining ad lists a "Twin Six" Derby station in St. James, and I'm guessing this might be it. It is commonly referred to as Lyle's Derby Station. Lyle Staab owned the station beginning in the early 1960s.

xA pair of gas pumps and an interesting light canopy still stand on the pump island out front.

xThe colors on the Derby sign are so vivid in this 2016 photo it makes me wonder if the sign has been repainted in the last few years.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
