Andrew Wetzel bought this property from Peter Blum in 1911 and by 1914 it was the Wetzel's Store which started out as a two story house and has since had at least two additions. You can see the gable end of the original in the center of this photo. The first addition was to add space to the front of the house. The second addition included everything to the right of the gabled end of the house. The stepped false front was apparently added sometime after 1932. I'm guessing that is probably when the entire right side addition was added. This is one of the best preserved commercial building along historic Manchester Road.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
