Kern Service Station

17301 Manchester Rd, Pond, MO

East < GO > West

John A Kern purchased this property in 1893 and had a blacksmith and wagon shop and an old carpenters shop here. The building shown here dates back to about 1925 and was probably built as the a service station judging by the canopy that would have covered the pump island. Records show the Kern Service Station at this location in 1930. There's a later addition on the west side of the building. Like a lot of former service stations this one did some time as an antique store. The building was declared a local landmark in 2005.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
