The view from Jensen's Point Overlook is wonderful! The climb to get there not so cool, but well worth the effort. It was named in honor of Lars Jensen, the first president of the Henry Shaw Gardenway Association. It was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the late 1930s. It's a great place to overlook the town, Pacific, and Route 66.

x It is located high on the cliff just before entering Pacific from the east. It's a bit hard to see in this photo, but the main structure is just to the right of the top of the light post

x You can almost see forever form the main structure. OK, the furniture could use a bit of rehabbing.
x That's the Mother Road down there at the bottom of the cliff. There are a couple of levels of terraces at the top.
x This is the stairway to the overlook. It's steep and rough, and there are few if any handrails.

x Those interested in the Civil War will appreciate spotting this sign standing between the Jensen Point parking lot and the highway.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
