Neil Ballard built the Hillside Tavern in the late 1920's. There were a few cabins out back and gas pumps out front, all those are gone. A fire in 1955 heavily damaged the second floor, but it was rebuilt, not the way you see it here though. The front section of the second floor is a much later addition

It is located next to the old Pinga's estaurant.

There were also gas pumps and cabins here. The building has been so heavily modified that it's hard to see any of the original from the street. The original second floor was damaged by fire in the 1950s and rebuilt, but the front section seen here with the unusual window arrangement is a fairly recent addition. This is shortly before you come to the Beaver Creek Bridge a few miles west of Zeno's in Rolla.
