Beaver Creek Bridge

E. Route 66 Martin Spring, MO
Phone: x

East < GO > West

The 1926 one-lane Beaver Creek Bridge concrete slab bridge is in a dangerous spot on the road sometimes referred to as a "dead man's curve". As if that isn't bad enough it is essentially a one lane bridge, so narrow there is not room for two cars to pass, so don't try. When we went by there was sign just east of the bridge saying "Yield To Oncoming Traffic". It is located at Hwy. 7100 (Route 66) & Hwy. 7000 on the west side of Martin Springs.

GPS: 37.932427, -91.838430

Planning for a new bridge here was approved in January of 2019 with the expectation that work could begin in 2020. The bridge is part of the official alternate route when the freeway is closed and is apparently just to small to carry the traffic load in such situations.

x The concrete slab style bridge is comprised of three fairly equal spans totaling about 66 feet and supported by concrete piers. The total deck width is only twenty feet, and that includes the railings and curbs.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
