D. L. Morris Garage

Route 66 (MO HWY. 96) at County Rd 1142, Heatonville, MO

East < GO > West

D. L. Morris built his garage here in 1936 on site of the old Heaton Post Office (1872-1881). It is located on the south side of Route 66 (Hwy. 96) and CR 1142.

GPS: 37.188761, -93.800033x The roof was missing when we went by in 2012, which is fairly common with old ruins like this.

x This garage is pretty well hidden by the trees when approached from east or west, so it's easy to zip right past it if you aren't looking for it.

x An old sign has somehow survived in place with a bit of extremely faded lettering.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
