These look like old gas stations or garages on the south side Hwy. 96
between Elm & Sarcoxie Streets in Avilla. The one shown above looks
like it is large enough that there may have been a cafe or store in the
tall section. The taller facade hides a gable roof. There was a large
circular drive in front of this building.
This smaller building sits just west of the building above, at the intersection
of Hwy. 96 and Elm Street.

You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane
road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned
lanes are still there.
