Carl Stansbury started building the Log City Camp in 1925 by chopping down some trees and using them to build a few log cabins, a store and a gas station. Over the years the camp grew to include 14 modern cabins. Tent and trailer camping spots were also available. One of the duplex cabins is seen on the right. The camp site is located on the SW corner of Hwy. 96 and Co. Rd. 6, which is also serves as the east end of the driveway.

Stansbury sold the property in the late 1920s and it was then sold to a third owner named Billy Barker. Barker added a large dining room on the back of the gas station. Barker continued to run the business into at least the late 1940s.

xA vine covered duplex cottage still stands as a reminder of the good old days at Log City Camp. The cabins also offered private bathrooms with showers and hot and cold running water and some sort of cooking facilities. They also featured Beauty Rest mattresses. Scroll down to see an early real photo postcard featuring this same duplex cottage.

xThis is the modern garage building that replaced the Main Log City building. It's a lot easier to spot Log City if you look for this building on the south side of MO 96. Compare this 2016 photo of the main building with the postcard image of the same main building just below.

NOTE: Typical of real photo postcards there isn't a lot of text description, but it does give a good idea of the location, all on the front of the card. There's no descriptive text about the camp on the back of the cards.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
