If you needed to pull off the road for a bit of a rest in the old days there was, and still is, a neat little roadside park in Albatross. It is on the NW corner where the Mother Road meets MO 39. Today we hop in our car in Springfield and zip right past so many reminders of what traveling was like all those decades ago, this is one of those places. It's easy to imagine Dad pulling in here and Mom setting up a picnic lunch for the whole family.

Small rest/picnic areas like this are a sort of endangered species. This one was still accessable when we last went by, but you have to turn north on MO 39 to get to the entrance.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
