This 1945 bridge over Money Creek is right next to old Route 66 on the abandoned southbound lanes. There is a pullout just south of the bridge where you can park and walk to the bridge for pictures.

The bridge is about 1/2 mile NE of Towanda. The 1940s four lane highway has been reduced to two lanes here with the abandonment of the two southbound lanes. This bridge served those southbound lanes.

GPS: 40.573041, -88.885420

x The old southbound lanes here are part of the Historic Route 66 Trail in Towanda. The bridge is 115 feet long with the longest span being 44.9 feet and has a deck width of 27.9 feet. It was built using a concrete tee beam design. The twin to this bridge sits next to it and still serves Historic U.S. 66.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
