East < GO > West

These two bridges were built years apart, the eastbound bridge in 1939 and the westbound bridge in 1946.

The 1939 bridge was part of the original 2 lane alignment of Route 66. The westbound bridge, closed in 1988, was part of the expansion of Route 66 to a 4 lane highway. The bridges are listed as five-span structures with steel beams in the IDOT 2012 Route 66 in Illinois Survey.

The bridges are located about 2.75 miles south of the 1942 State Police Headquarters

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
