1943 Mystery Bridge

Old Route 66

East < GO > West

The above photo is the closed westbound 1943 bridge over this mystery creek. The bridge was built as part of the expansion of Route 66 to four lanes. OK the name of the creek is probably not a mystery to local folks, but I haven't found a reference that names it yet. The creek runs under the road at a pretty severe angle as the barriers show.

The bridge is about 6/10s of a mile south of the intersection of Old Route 66 and N 1200E Rd.

xThis photo is from the north end of the closed westbound bridge.

xThe original 1926 alignment of Route 66, still in use today, uses the bridge on the upper right in the photo. That bridge dates to the mid-50s when it replaced the original 1926 bridge.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
