Mr. and Mrs. Herman Sass operated the 1920s and 1930s Diamond Camp along
Pine Street on the east side of east of Beech Street. That included some
small cabins and a Sinclair gas station. As time went on the name and
ownership changed several times to include Manning's Diamond Tourist Camp,
Manning's Trailer Camp. From the early 1940s to the late 50s it was (Tom)
Manning's Diamond Cabin Camp. .By the 1960s became Royal Acres operated
by Royal Kleinschmidt.
As far as I can tell the Casey's Gas Station & Convenience Store
on the corner of Pine and Beech sits on the site of the old Manning
Motel. Tom Manning owned the trailer park and motel until his death
in 1957.

You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane
road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned
lanes are still there.
