The Litchfield Museum and Route 66 Welcome Center which opened in June 2013 sits where the Vic Suhling gas station did. We visited the museum in 2016. It's loaded with all kinds of local and Route 66 history.

The Vic Suhling Gas Station opened in 1957, closed in 1973 and was demolished in 1990. When the sign was erected in 1957, the station operated 24 hours a day. In September 2013 the sign was taken down for restoration and in October 2012 there was a relighting ceremony.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
