This cabin was built in 1829 by John Patton and his family and friends including some Kickapoo and Delaware Indians who lived in the area. Its original location was about 3.5 miles SW of Lexington. In 1831 it was the polling place for the Mackinsaw Precinct.

The cabin as it stands now is missing the 1832 addition of a windowless room the family called Fort Patton. That room was built in response to the Black Hawk Indian War.

Mrs. Ruth Reynolds donated the cabin to the McLean County Historical Society in 1963. Two years later it was dismantled in 1965 and rebuilt in the Lexington Park District in 1969. It was then restored in 1984-85.

The cabin is on the National Register of Historic Places.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
