Elmo & Arline Winterland built the Oasis Drive-In in 1960 squeezed between two alignments of the Mother Road. They operated the business until 1976 and it finally closed in the 1980s. The drive-in was honored by being inducted into the IL Route 66 hall of Fame in 1998. It is currently vacant.

xI was a teenager in the 60's and this is the kind of place that we'd hangout at on Friday nights after we washed our cars and picked up our friends. The patio on the west end of the building held picnic tables so customers could get out of their cars and dine in the open air. xA few old cars, trucks and other stuff are all that hang out under the canopy today.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
