The cool old Nemanich Block stands across the street from the Original Dairy Queen building. As close as I can tell, it was built between 1900 and 1908. From a blurry old photo it looks like there was another row of windows above the top diamonds on the turret on the corner of the building.

The early businesses in the building included the Clinton Nemanich Jr. Saloon and the Tigar and Plisich Grocery. In the 1920s the Clinton Nemanich Jr. Confectionery and the Anton Nemanich and Son Undertakers were located here. The Nemanich Funeral Home remained in the building through at least 1945. I haven't found anything indicating if the second floor was commercial, office space or apartments.

xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
