Renaissance Center
214 W Ottawa, Joliet, IL
Phone:
This original YMCA building constructed in 1927 was a five-story brick
and stone structure around an open courtyard/light well. The Women's Division,
the slightly taller section in this photo, was added on the south end
of the original building in 1949. The YMCA moved out in 1989. Currently
it offers affordable rental apartments for senior citizens. This looks
like a huge building, but there is a large ground level courtyard in the
center that is open to the sky.
You
can see the YMCA name above the entrance on Ottawa Street.
It's
a little hard to read, but the cornerstone reads Joliet YMCA 1927.
