The Canal Motel and Restaurant was built in 1960 by George W. and Robert G. Douglas. When it was new it consisted of a motel, cafe and lounge. It is located west of IL 3 on the south side on Chain of Rock Rd.

x The MOTEL lettering on the large white panel at the top of the sign was pretty well worn off in 2016 at least on this side. There was a car here when we went by but no real indication if the place was still operating as a motel and/or restaurant.

xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
