This arch at the North Mac School was constructed by the Class of 1927
and welcomes students to the Girard Public Schools campus. It's only one
year younger than the Mother Road itself! You drive right past this on
the west side of old 66 (IL-4) not long after you enter town.
The rather simple but elegant plaque reads: "Girard Township High
School - Class of 1927". This photo was snapped in 2015, nearly
90 years after the arch was created as a gift from the class of 1927.

About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more

You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane
road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned
lanes are still there.
