When this theater opened in 1921 as the Pert Theatre the entrance was on the front on Chestnut St. Since then it's been closed and reopened a few times. The name changed with ownership's. Over the Years it was known as the Pert Theater, the New Pert, the Lyric and the Canna. The seating capacity also changed over the years from something like 600 to apparently as few as 250 or less.
The Canna Theater sign still appears on the side of the building in 2016.

xI'm not sure when, or why, the entrance was moved to the side of the building. Somewhere along the line, probably when the entrance was moved, the front of the building was extensively remodeled. The recessed space pierced by several small windows replaced the original entrance and ticket booth.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
