East < GO > West

This drug store was established in 1919 and has continuously been a pharmacy. Ed Dippold and his father ran Dippold's Drug Store until the late 1980s. It became Michelle's Pharmacy in 2009. It is located on Macoupin between Walnut and Chestnut.

xThe mural was a joint city and donor project and was completed in May 2015. It tells the story of the drugstore and doughboy monument.

The "doughboy" depicted in the mural was originally located on the corner by Dippold's until traffic made it necessary to move it. The white sign tells a bit of the history of this intersection.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
