This neat little old Chicago & Alton Railroad depot started out in the nearby town of Shirley. The depot dates back to 1910 or so. After the tracks were lowered in Shirley to ease the grade for the trains the depot was left high above them, so stairs were built down to the new track level.

The historic depot was moved from Shirley to Funks Grove in the mid-1970s. The depot is on the right side of Funks Rd. (E 550 North Rd), just past the railroad tracks.

x The building looks good even from the back. I'm not sure what it is used for at this time. In an apparent case of "musical depots", the old Funks Grove Depot was moved to the Maple Sirup site.

In the true spirit of friendliness along the Mother Road, when we stopped to take photos here a local lady stopped right behind us and offered to snap a photo of us by this building and by the General Store across the street.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
