In 2022 this historic building on the northeast corner of Main Street and Governor Oglesby St. became home to the Elkhart Station, a sort of general store, gift shop and bar.

It occupies the late-1890s Ruth's Hall building where the International Oerder of Odd Fellowa (I.O.O.F.) Lodge was located upstairs. P..J. Ruth sold clothes, groceries and notions, etc. The building housed Splain's Corner Tavern in the 1930's. Later it was the Buck's Corner Tavern. In 1982 it became the Blue Monday 4 Star Dining and Lounge. Notice the old water tower on the left in this photo.

xThe building sports a large Elkhart Station / Route 66 mural on the west side.

xThis 2017 photo shows how the appearance of the building has changed in just a few years.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
