This is the old Brennan's store building. They sold shoes, groceries, fabrics, ax handles, candy, and more in a sort of general store. In 1923 R B Lanterman's Grocery opened in the building and operated here until 1977. It was the Little Foxes shop when we went by in 2016. There used to be a Selz Shoes sign on the west side of the building, but most, if not all, of it has disappeared.

This is one of four buildings on Governor Oglesby St. with names and/or years on them: Stahl, Lucas 1914, 1902 - Bank - 1919 and 1889 and this one - 1889.

This mural was painted in 2017 and features many of the historic landmarks in Elkhart. There's a bit of ghost signs between the two doors on the right side in this photo.

This side of the building faces Latham St., the old Chicago & Alton Railroad passenger depot was located about where I stood to take this photo.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
