This is the old Brennan's store building. They sold shoes, groceries, fabrics, ax handles, candy, and more in a sort of general store. In 1923 R B Lanterman's Grocery opened in the building and operated here until 1977. It was the Little Foxes shop when we went by in 2016. There used to be a Selz Shoes sign on the west side of the building, but most, if not all, of it has disappeared.

This is one of four buildings on Governor Oglesby St. with names and/or years on them: The Stahl building, the 1914 Lucas building, the 1902 - 1919 Bankbuilding and and this one, the 1889. Brennan building.

This 2017 mural share its wall with a little ghost signage.

xHere's bit better ;ook at the mural.

xWha that bit of ghost signage between the two doors says is hard to read, but what ever it was could be purchased for only $4.00. This side of the building faces Latham St., the old Chicago & Alton Railroad passenger depot was located about where I stood to take this photo.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
