This very interesting sign is gone, reportedly stolen in 2019 ! It was located on the right side of the road shortly after you get on Chain of Rocks Rd. and just east of the building at 5335 . The Town & Country Motel was originally called the Chain of Rocks Tourist Camp and was built by Otto Bauman around 1935.

GPS: 38.760072, -90.013698

xThe sign showed that it had a prior life with a Kaiser-Frazer dealership. Like the motel, the Kaiser-Frazer line of automobiles is long gone, except for the Jeep which lives on.

x A bit of the old MOTEL neon tubing was still clinging to the sign in 2016.

xThis is private property and there is not a real good place to pull over. The sign was still looking about the same when we went by in May 2018.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
