The 1927 Madison County Oil Company station became the West End Station in 1936, it was torn down in 1939 and replaced by the current building. The 1939 West End Station has been restored and is now a Welcome Center. In the early 1940s it was selling Mobilgas products. The large windows on the front of the building in this photo would have been garage doors when it was a gas station. When the station was built there was no canopy over the drive, that was added hen the building became the Welcome Center.

xThere's a info display that tells much of the stations history.

xThe building became a dental office in the mid-1960s, as shown in this 2016 photo. The first station here was much smaller with a drive through canopy over the pump island and no service bays. This photo shows the building without the canopy when it was still a dental office.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
